HOTEL: Alderbrook Inn
LOCATION: Hood Canal - Union, Washington
SUBJECT: King Bed / Water View
Alderbrook Inn is a wonderful property, perched along the shore of Washington State's scenic Hood Canal. You could say this property has special meaning to Sally and I, as we were married there in the summer of 2008. The rustic luxury that is the main lodge provides customers with the perfect backdrop for bun and relaxation. The location and water views are unparalleled, and have amazed those who stay here since the Inn was first opened in 1913.
While this photo is a fairly straight forward room shot, there were a number of tonal and contrast challenges we were able to overcome thanks to our advanced lighting techniques. Notice we were able to hold detail in the whitest of highlights on the large white pillows. Directly behind these pillows was a deep cherrywood headboard that is MUCH darker than the pillows. Still, we were able to not only hold detail in the pillows, but pull out detail and the richness of the cherrywood.
This room is a mixture of eclectic and classic tones, and with our lighting techniques, it was easy to separate and accentuate tones, color, and detail.
A word of note, Alderbrook Inn has a fantastic restaurant and bar. Executive Chef Christopher Schwarz does an amazing job with local offerings from the Pacific Northwest. A favorite of ours is the Grand Marnier Prawns, served with mizuna salad, grand marnier aioli, and a citrus vinaigrette.
